Theme for 2017: Pacif­ic Con­nec­tions: Share a film with the FHFF that tells a sto­ry of how we are con­nect­ed to the world around us; it can have an envi­ron­men­tal or social jus­tice focus. Ensure that your film has a call to action or a mean­ing­ful take away mes­sage that can Enter­tain, Inspire and Enlight­en audi­ences.

Prizes: Win­ners will receive the fol­low­ing prizes:

  1. Screen­ing of their film at the Fri­day Har­bor Film Fes­ti­val and oth­er relat­ed events host­ed by the Fri­day Har­bor Film Fes­ti­val
  2. Tick­ets to the Fri­day Har­bor Film Fes­ti­val 2017
  3. Post­ing of their film on the Fri­day Har­bor Film Fes­ti­val web­site, and use of the film for any pro­mo­tion­al mate­ri­als and online media at its dis­cre­tion
  4. Cash prize: Each win­ning film will receive a cash prize of $500

Tech­ni­cal require­ments:

  • Length of Film: 3–5 min­utes
  • High Qual­i­ty Res­o­lu­tion of 1080p
  • Film must be sub­mit­ted via our Film Free­way page, filmfreeway.com/festival/FHFF.
  • Accept­ed film for­mats are .mov .mp4 or .mpg file. The only com­pres­sion method that is accept­ed is H.264
  • Ensure that you have a clear title, all film­mak­ers are list­ed and that your age cat­e­go­ry is spec­i­fied. We are look­ing for films that ENTERTAIN, INSPIRE and ENLIGHTEN audi­ences and are rel­e­vant to our theme
  • Entrants sub­mit­ting films that con­tain sig­nif­i­cant non-Eng­lish spo­ken dia­logue must pro­vide on-screen Eng­lish sub­ti­tles.

Agreement to Official Rules: Participation in the Young Filmmakers Project submission constitutes the entrants’ unconditional and full agreement to and acceptance of the rules and the decisions of the Friday Harbor Film Festival, which are final and binding. On or before, July 1st, 2017, winners will be chosen and notified via telephone or email. If winners cannot be contacted within 7 days after the first attempt, the Friday Harbor Film Festival may choose to award the runner-up instead of the originally selected winner. Winners must supply the Friday Harbor Film Festival with a working mailing address to which the prize can be delivered. The Friday Harbor Film Festival reserves the right to award the prize in the name of the parent/legal guardian. The Friday Harbor Film Festival also reserves the right to suspend the Young Filmmakers Project submissions for any issue or to disqualify any entrant who is in violation or does not comply with the submission rules. By voluntarily participating in the Young Filmmakers Project submissions, the entrant agrees to release and hold harmless the Friday Harbor Film Festival from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation, cancellation of the Young Filmmakers Project, injury, death or losses of any kind. By submitting to the Young Filmmakers Project, the entrant waives any right to claim any damages whatsoever, including but not limited to consequential, punitive, direct, or indirect damages. Except when prohibited by law, entrants agree that any and all disputes will be handled individually. In the case of any dispute, entrants agree to attempt resolution with the Friday Harbor Film Festival. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of the Rules, entrants’ rights and obligations, or the rights and obligations of the Friday Harbor Film Festival in connection to the Contest, shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Illinois, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules, which would cause the laws of any jurisdiction other than Illinois. Any legal fees incurred by the Friday Harbor Film Festival, in the event of a dispute from an entrant, is the responsibility of the entrant. The Friday Harbor Film Festival reserves the right to disqualify an entrant, without refund of any or all submission fees and is under no obligation to provide comments or feedback to anyone regarding a submitted film. The Friday Harbor Film Festival disavows any responsibility for, and will not be held responsible or liable for, the contents of any internal comments or feedback regarding any film submitted to the Festival.
