The Breach

The film follows filmmaker Mark Titus on his travels through the Pacific Northwest and Alaska, as he documents stories of hope and tragedy for wild salmon, the icons of our area of the world. After more than a century of overfishing and habitat degradation, the survival of this vital food source for the planet is seriously in jeopardy. Mining companies, archaic dams, and corporate fish farms are all contributing to the crisis. The Breach documents the fight to save the last, great wild salmon runs left on earth, and explores the relationship between people and wild salmon. The film poses the difficult questions: Can we repair our broken connection to the natural world in time to save the most sustainable wild food left on the planet? Is it too late, or can we learn from our past mistakes?
