More Than Honey

Winner of the 2013 Austrian Film Award for Best Sound Editing; winner of Best Documentary at 2013 Bavarian Film Awards and German Film Awards

More Than Honey (directed by Markus Imhoof) provides an in-depth look into the fascinating world of honeybees, focusing on the critical important of bees to the survival of mankind, and their epidemic disappearance around the globe. In the U.S., the latest estimates suggest that a total of 1.5 million beehives (out of 2.4 million total) have disappeared across 27 states, and similar phenomena have been observed around the world. Concerned scientists have named this “colony collapse disorder,” and they have good reason to be worried: 80% of plant species require bees to be pollinated. Without bees, there is no pollination, and fruits and vegetables could disappear from the face of the earth. With the tenacity of a man out to solve a world-class mystery, Oscar-nominated director Markus Imhoof tackles this vexing issue. Exquisite macro-photography of the bees in flight and in their hives reveals a fascinating, complex world in crisis.
