The Salt of the Earth

Directors: Juliano Ribeiro Salgado and Wim Wenders

Nominated for an Oscar as Best Documentary Feature; winner of 12 film festival awards

A visually stunning documentary about the life, times, and work of the widely respected Brazilian photographer and photojournalist Sebastião Salgado, The Salt of the Earth is a celebration of the power of art to change the world, as well as an exploration of the considerable toll that gifted artists sometimes pay for their talents.  Salgado has spent over 40 years documenting the lives of people the world over, finding beauty, strength, and hope even in those who find themselves in the bleakest of circumstances.  He also created an impressive tribute to the planet’s beauty, with photographs of pristine territories, wild fauna and flora, and grandiose landscapes.  In this film, Salgado’s life and work are revealed to us by his son, Juliano, who went with him during his most recent travels, and by photographer Wim Wenders.
