About the event
"Mama Bears"
Directed by Daresha Kyi
2022 | 90 minutes
"Mama Bears" is a thought-provoking documentary that follows the stories of two conservative, Christian mothers who become fierce advocates for the LGBTQ+ community after accepting their own children's identities. Through their journeys, as well as the story of a young lesbian struggling with self-acceptance, the film showcases the transformative power of a mother's love. These "mama bears" risk everything to fight for the rights and safety of all LGBTQ+ individuals, forming a tight-knit community in the process.
Winner of the 2023 Friday Harbor Film Festival's Best Tales from the Heart Award, "Mama Bears" is a heartfelt exploration of the challenges and triumphs faced by LGBTQ+ families. Â A pre-recorded Q&A with Director Daresha Kyi will follow the screening.
This event is FREE to attend. Â No tickets or RSVP are required for entry.
