Patrick and the Whale (2022, 72 min) follows Patrick Dykstra, a man dedicated to diving with and understanding whales. Using stunning underwater footage, the film explores the fascinating nature of the sperm whale and highlights its intelligence, complexity, and relationship with humankind.
In the film, Patrick returns to the island of Dominica in search of "Dolores", a curious sperm whale who once approached him underwater, coming close enough to touch. Their life-changing encounter left Patrick feeling that Dolores was trying to communicate with him. He hopes to find her again to understand the hidden world of her species better.
Patrick and the Whale is an intimate look at one man's quest to connect with one of the ocean's most magnificent creatures. It reveals the sacrifices Patrick has made in his single-minded mission while shining a light on the extraordinary sperm whale.
