93 minutes
The fate of the planet's last untouched wilderness, the deep ocean, is under threat as a secretive organization is about to allow massive extraction of seabed metals to address the world's energy crisis.
ABOUT THE FILM
Deep Rising illuminates the vital relationship between the deep ocean and sustaining life on Earth. The documentary follows mining startup, The Metals Company, as it pursues funding, public favor, and permission from the International Seabed Authority to mine wide swathes of the Pacific Ocean floor. Minerals deep in the ocean may be the answer to our future energy needs.
This up-to-the-minute tale of geopolitical, scientific, and corporate intrigue exposes the machinations of a secretive organization empowered to green light massive extraction of metals from the deep seafloor that are deemed essential to the electric battery revolution.
“Deep Rising is an immersive virtual reality experience and a feature film that aims to provoke a paradigm shift in order to find seeds for solutions to the climate crisis we are currently facing.” (Redford Center)
