COMMON GROUND explores how Americans from different walks of life, different political backgrounds, and different parts of the country share one thing in common – the very soil beneath their feet. Sequel to Kiss the Ground screened at FHFF in 2021.
ABOUT THE FILM
The film explores the sweeping changes in our food system that have taken place over the past 50 years and looks at how “regenerative” farming systems – from large-scale agricultural operations to small-scale farmers – are universally concluding that soil health could be the key to unlocking more and better food to feed America and the world. Because of poisonous practices in the American food system and related government policies, farmers and families, including minorities, have suffered illness and tragedy.
Common Ground explores how regenerative agriculture, returning to the practices pioneered by Black and indigenous farmers, can help heal the soil, our health, and the planet. This provides hope for future generations, exploring concrete ways to fix a broken planetary system.
This documentary won the 2023 Human/Nature Award following its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June.
