We are excited to announce that the Friday Harbor Film Festival will be screening the award-winning documentary film, THE POLLINATORS, at the San Juan Island Library on Friday, April 14th at 7:00 PM.

THE POLLINATORS is a thought-provoking and powerful film that follows migratory beekeepers and their truckloads of honey bees as they pollinate the flowers that become the fruits, nuts, and vegetables we all eat. Along the way, we hear from farmers, scientists, chefs, economists, and academics about the threats facing honey bees and what it means for our food security.
Did you know that close to half of the bee colonies in the United States die off every single year? This is an alarming statistic that highlights the urgency of the situation. Bees are indispensable to the feeding of America, and without them, one out of every three bites we eat, and almost all our fruits, nuts, and vegetables would be impossible to grow.
The film's director, Peter Nelson, will join us at the library via livestream after the screening for a question and answer session. Nelson has spoken to experts from all over the country to give a broad perspective on the threats to honey bees and how we can improve food security.
This event is free, and no tickets or RSVPs are required to attend. We encourage anyone who cares about the future of our food supply and the environment to come to the library on April 14th at 7:00 PM to view THE POLLINATORS and participate in the discussion afterward.
