About the Director

Amy Herdy is the recipient of the 2023 Friday Harbor Film Festival's Local Hero Award, which will be presented on Sunday, October 29 during the Audience Choice Awards at the San Juan Community Theatre.


Amy Herdy is an award-winning documentary film producer and journalist whose work has directly impacted American politics and culture, resulting in real-world change. Both an investigative reporter and filmmaker, she has researched, directed, or produced award-winning films, including “Betrayal in the Ranks,” “The Invisible War,” “The Hunting Ground,” “The Bleeding Edge,” “On the Record,” “Allen v Farrow,” and “Britney v Spears.” Her work has been screened on CNN, Netflix, and HBO. She lives with a variety of animals on a farm in the San Juan Islands.
