Sidewinder Films co-founder David Ulich discusses the founding and mission of Sidewinder Films and the process and factors that led to the decision to create the documentary film "Waterman"

Sidewinder Films was born from a love of sport and a passion for education. Its founders, Dr. Steven Ungerleider, and David Ulich envisioned a production company where creative minds, funding, and knowledge can come together to create groundbreaking films that have a lasting impact. Created as the media division of its parent organization, The Foundation for Global Sports Development, the documentaries from Sidewinder Films delve into stories that capture sport’s undeniable influence on society and the world.

Since its formation in 2015, Sidewinder Films has led or partnered on film projects that are at the forefront of significant societal transformations. Their films have been nominated for Oscars and Emmy awards, have been featured at some of the world’s top festivals, such as Sundance and Tribeca Film Festivals, and have been broadcast on HBO, PBS, and Netflix. They have launched educational campaigns with guides for audiences to be part of the change they call for in the documentaries.

Sidewinder Films support initiatives that promote good sportsmanship, fair play, and bullying and abuse prevention. Sidewinder furthers this mission through groundbreaking documentaries that affect change in global sports culture, protecting and empowering the next generation of athletes. Sidewinder Films is also in partnership with Courage First, an abuse awareness program that aims to educate adults & teens on sexual abuse and predatory behavior.

The films produced by Sidewinder Films have a mission to inspire and empower audiences. One such film, "Waterman," directed by Isaac Halasima, will be screened for free at the San Juan Island Grange on Friday, February 10th at 7 PM. Engage with the filmmaker during the Q&A session via livestream after the screening.
