About the Film: Van Gogh: Poets & Lovers

Directed by David Bickerstaff and produced by Phil Grabsky of Seventh Art Productions, Van Gogh: Poets & Lovers invites audiences into the heart of Van Gogh’s art and psyche, using the acclaimed 2024 exhibition at London's National Gallery as its vibrant foundation.
The film reveals how Van Gogh’s profound connection to nature, poetry, and emotional intensity shaped his visionary body of work. From early studies to radiant landscapes and intimate portraits, the documentary weaves together expert commentary, stunning visuals of the paintings, and dramatized letters from Van Gogh himself to illuminate the inner world of this extraordinary artist.
The National Gallery’s “Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers” exhibition brought together some of Van Gogh’s most iconic works—including rarely seen pieces from around the world—into a powerful narrative exploring the themes of love, nature, and creative passion. The film captures this once-in-a-lifetime exhibition with cinematic beauty and emotional depth.
