Featured Documentary Film: Send Kelp!

Send Kelp! screened as part of the 2025 Friday Harbor Film Festival and quickly became a standout for its immersive storytelling and striking cinematography.

Directed by Blake McWilliam, the film explores kelp farming near Vancouver Island, offering a visually rich look at how seaweed aquaculture supports sustainable food systems and ocean health. One of the film’s most distinctive elements is its original score, which incorporates the sounds of kelp itself, creating a deeply atmospheric and place-based viewing experience.

By pairing the film with an in-person presentation and tasting, this event invites audiences to move from cinematic storytelling into real-world connection—linking what we see on screen to local practice and lived experience.
